René Rodriguez-Sains, MD

Dr. Rodriguez-Sains is an internationally renowned ophthalmologist and ophthalmic plastic surgeon, trained in ophthalmic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. He is a Board Certified Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

He is a member of several Clinical Advisory Boards, including the Skin Cancer Foundation, the Malignant Melanoma Clinical Cooperative Group (NYU) and the Orbital Disease Foundation. He is an Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery and Ophthalmic Oncology Consultant at the Bonafonte Eye Institute in Barcelona, Spain. Dr. Rodriguez-Sains is on the teaching faculty of the New York University School of Medicine, presently as Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Ophthalmology and previously as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology.

Dr. Rodriguez-Sains was Resident Instructor and Surgeon Director at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in charge of teaching 18 resident physicians all aspects of medical and surgical ophthalmology. He continues to teach there and at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and Bellevue Hospital. He lectures worldwide on cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery techniques and is an authority on the diagnosis and treatment of ocular and eyelid tumors and melanomas. He first described, and has written extensively, on the association of ocular and cutaneous melanomas and ocular and cutaneous nevi (moles) in patients with the Atypical Mole Syndrome (Dysplastic Nevus Syndrome).

Dr. Rodriguez-Sains has been interviewed by major network and cable TV stations as well as several leading publications on a series of topics including ophthalmic diseases, cancers of the eyelids and eyes, the use of ultraviolet blocking glasses in cancer prevention, cosmetic eyelid surgery and facial cosmetic enhancement with Botox�. He appears in the latest editions of the Castle Connolly Guides: Top Doctors New York Metro Area and America’s Cosmetic Doctors and Dentists. He is listed as well in the Consumers Research Council of America: Guide to America’s Top Ophthalmologists.

Dr. Rodriguez-Sains is the author of over 75 articles, chapters  and books dealing with ophthalmology, ophthalmic plastic and cosmetic surgery, tumors and cancers of the skin and eye,  thyroid eye disease, eyelid malpositions and their correction and the refinement of techniques in cosmetic eyelid surgery.

 

He has given over 150 national and international lectures on topics ranging from cosmetic surgery, to cancers and melanomas of the lids and eyes, to repair and reconstruction of orbital and eyelid tumors and defects as well as cosmetic facial enhancement with Botox� and dermal fillers (Restylane�, Juvederm�, Collagen).   

He is a Board Member of and/or supports multiple charitable organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Eye Care Foundation, the Children’s Aid Society, the Imus Ranch for Kids with Cancer, the Inner City Scholarship Fund, the Police Foundation and Sports Angels. He is a New York City Police Surgeon and a volunteer with the New York City Medical Reserve Corps. Dr. Rodriguez-Sains has traveled worldwide performing charitable reconstructive and aesthetic surgery on children and adults.

  • The office participates in the Medicare program and accepts Oxford Insurance Plans (EXCEPT OXFORD LIBERTY)We are happy to accept other Insurance Companies OUT OF NETWORK benefits on a case by case basis. 
  • Our Staff will help you with forms for reimbursement as needed and we will work with your insurance carrier to obtain approvals as required. 
  • Do note it is the responsibility of the patient to bring to the office  Referral Forms, when those are a requirement.

  • Parking is available in the building, entrance is on 74 Street, on the left, just after crossing Park Avenue.
